LEAPING IN

Now I know that there’s lots of nonsense talked about women proposing to men on 29th February. I’ve even heard that traditionally if the man refuses the lady then he has to pay her a sum of money and buy her a pair of gloves (to hide the bare wedding finger presumably). Of course, money and gloves could well be considerably cheaper than accepting, only to make a big mistake and have to come up with a divorce settlement later.

Leap Day or not, however, I was quite amazed to find this message in my inbox tonight:
“On this the most special of days,” it read, “We want to give you a free mug…. All fully completed proposals accepted!”

LUXURY WEEKEND BREAK-UPS

How do you fancy a weekend break in a luxury hotel? What about a weekend break-up? That’s what’s on offer in the Netherlands with a new concept known as the Divorce Hotel. There separating couples can hole themselves up together for a weekend, albeit in separate single rooms. During their stay they get the benefits of lawyers and mediation services to help them work out the terms of their split, as well as the facilities of the hotel for “time-out.” At the end of their stay it is anticipated that an agreement will have been reached that encompasses arrangements for children and finance, all reached in a relaxing environment.

Curiously I couldn’t find any last minute deals for such a stay, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.
